THE KLEENEX BUDDY.
The Kleenex Buddy is a passion project where I infuse personality into an everyday necessity.
Duration: 2 weeks | Tools: Solidworks, Keyshot, Bambu Studio, Photoshop
In an effort to further personalize my belongings, I wanted to create a tissue box cover. I drew inspiration from my ceramics brand, mushi mushi, using familiar motifs such as the Penguin Pals and octopus carafe ideate new creations.
While working in Solidworks, I ended up making the form more boxy to reduce the amount of filament needed to 3D print the object.
IDEATION
The tissue holder is held together by two snap fits located on opposite sides of the penguin.
HOW IT WORKS
I utilized Bambu Studio to find the optimal printing position and structure for the piece, ultimately choosing an organic support structure to minimize unnecessary material use.
However, I encountered a challenge when I ran out of filament near the end of the first print. Attempting to glue the remaining pieces together caused warping in the snap fits, necessitating a reprint of the top half.
3D Printing
I would incorporate circular indents to indicate the locations of the snap fits. Additionally, I would increase the height of the flange while selectively removing non-corner sections. This approach enhances 3D printing efficiency and reduces material waste without compromising functionality.
